Few sports generate as much passion as football. It is played in all four corners of the world and doesn´t require much: two teams and a ball made of leather, plastic, or other malleable material.
If this game brings people together, then why not try to give it a greater sense of community.
With this mindset, the last Friday of October of every year we celebrate the Global Rural Community Football Gathering, an incredible experience that the Rural Communities Network Foundation has promoted since 2009.
More than 500 rural schools and communities in all the provinces of Argentina and worldwide celebrate with a local football match. From Antarctica to Jujuy, from Mendoza to Buenos Aires and Costa Rica to Sri Lanka, the ball is kicked on the same side, realizing thousands of community goals.
The main objective of the Gathering is to share a sense of community through this match and the resources available, strengthening bonds between students, teachers, family members, and members of the community. This game is achieved by planning and organizing each location, no matter how far or isolated they are.
Through football, children, with school ages, are the protagonists of this Gathering. A game where everyone wins, a game that everyone celebrates.
